GUARANTEED SAFE CHECKOUT
Dating back to 1942, ‘Red Duke of York’ is a heritage first early variety that is a firm favourite among growers. The red-skinned tubers have shallow eyes and yellow flesh, producing an attractive contrast in colour. This potato is packed with flavour for a whole host of meals in the kitchen.
The variety is resistant to adverse weather, and is a successful crop for growing in exposed and cooler regions of the North. ‘Red Duke of York’ stores well in a cool place, meaning that its flavours can be enjoyed right through the summer and autumn.
Pre-Chitted
Chitting seed potatoes is a long honoured tradition and can lead to earlier and larger yields. The process encourages the emergence of shoots before the seed is planted in the ground. We are managing the pre-chitting process for you so you dont have to buy your seed potatoes as early as you normally would and you can receive these at the optimum time for planting.
Seed Potatoes
All our seed potatoes are graded to a size 35mm x 35mm to 55mm x 55mm. This means that the smallest seed potatoes in the sample will not fall through an 35mm square. This does mean there will be various sizes within the pack. More modern varieties are more equal in size but as we want to offer the more unusual and Heritage varieties, these are more variable but we will always supply the weight stated. Any harvest will depend on individual growing conditions but generally smaller potatoes will produce smaller crops and larger potatoes will produce larger crops. But for example 1kg of seed potatoes will produce the same overall harvest whether the seed potatoes are small or large.
